Top GLC official to be questioned by MACC

A government-linked company (GLC) director is being investigated for receiving kickbacks worth RM50 million as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) revs up its operations against decision-makers.

The Star reported that MACC has opened investigations against the 50-year-old and is expected to pick him up for questioning soon as part of its blitz against top officers and decision-makers of organisations suspected of corruption.

Sources told the newspaper that the man had previously held the post of chief executive officer with a GLC since 2010 but had resigned last year.

“During his stint as the CEO, he was believed to have awarded contracts worth tens of millions of ringgit to multiple companies.

“In return, he was said to have received kickbacks. And he lives a lavish lifestyle,” the source told The Star, adding that the man in question was now a director of a new GLC.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki confirmed the investigations.

Last week, the MACC detained a 56-year-old general manager of another GLC at his house in Seremban to assist in a corruption probe.

During the raid, cash amounting to RM30,000, two cars – an Audi TT and a Toyota Hilux – as well as a Harley Davidson bike were seized while several bank accounts amounting to RM2.5mil were frozen.

Also picked up were a managing director and a chief executive officer – both aged 51 – of two companies.

One of them carried the title of Datuk.-14/11/2016
