Selangor Mubarak to focus on voters aged 50 and above in GE14

Selangor Mubarak (Former Elected Representatives Council) will be assisting the Barisan Nasional (BN) machinery in the 14th general election campaign by focusing on voters aged 50 and above.

Its chief, Tan Sri Abu Hassan Omar said Selangor Mubarak had set up its own machinery, the Majlis Permuafakatan Parlimen, which would also receive the cooperation of 15 non-governmental organisations.

"Through this solidarity council, there will be Selangor Mubarak and NGO representatives entrusted with assisting the BN election machinery in the respective state and parliamentary constituencies.

"Our target are those voters aged 50 and above who form about 30 per cent of the voters in Selangor," he said on Wednesday after handing out Aidilfitri contributions to 17 widows and representatives of former Selangor elected

Abu Hassan, who is a former Selangor menteri besar, said the Mubarak machinery would be focusing on 43 of the 56 state constituencies and 13 of the 22 parliamentary constituencies.

In the 13th general election, BN won 12 state seats and five parliamentary seats in Selangor.

Abu Hassan was confident of BN wresting back Selangor from the opposition coalition based on the latest political developments in the state involving Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), DAP and PAS.

"After their administering Selangor for two terms, we've found many weaknesses involving such issues as housing and infrastructure which the current state government has failed to resolve, besides internal issues involving the ruling opposition parties.

"The latest issue involves PKR-PAS political cooperation which has ended but they are still together in the state's administration," he said.-15/6/2017
