Fadillah: All must back BN’s choice for Pujut

All Sarawak Barisan Nasional component party members must give their full support to the candidate chosen by the party leadership for the Pujut state seat by-election on July 4, said its Youth chief Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said while it was natural for some individuals to go around promoting themselves as potential candidates, everyone must fall in line and support the leadership’s choice.

“The state Barisan chairman will announce the candidate, and all must accept the decision and support that candidate.

“This is important in the spirit of Barisan,” he told reporters after handing out contributions from the Kampung Gita, Matang Welfare Trust Council, to several surau in the area yesterday.

Fadillah, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief, was asked to comment on some individuals from Barisan component parties said to be promoting themselves as potential candidates for the Pujut by-election, even though Sarawak Barisan chairman Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg had already stated that the candidate’s name would only be announced two days before nomination day on June 20.

The Pujut by-election is being called after its incumbent assemblyman, Dr Ting Tiong Choon from DAP, was disqualified from the state assembly on May 12 over the status of his citizenship.

In the 11th Sarawak state election in May last year, Dr Ting won with a 1,759-vote majority, defeating Barisan’s Datuk Hii King Chiong, Jofri Jaraiee (PAS) and independent Fong Pau Teck.

On another matter, Fadillah, who is also Works Minister, said projects in Sarawak were going on smoothly although there were slight delays.

He said the four-lane road project from the E-Mart roundabout at Matang to Stapok, Batu Kawa, including the construction of a bridge, was 93% complete, and would be ready this year.

He added that part of the Pan-Borneo Highway project, between the 10th and 15th mile of the Kuching-Serian stretch, was 51% complete.-5/6/2017
