Wee confident MACC will be professional in its probe

MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong is confident that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission would conduct its probe into the Penang undersea tunnel project professionally.

“When or where there is a case, I reiterate my party’s stand from Day 1: Anyone suspected to be involved in the case, whether he is from the ruling coalition or not, at state or federal level, irrespective of which political party he is a member of, MACC should conduct its investigation without fear or favour in a professional manner devoid of bias,” said Wee via MCA’s Facebook Live page on Thursday.

“I have been consistent. Whoever MACC called – anyone whether an Exco member from Penang or an Umno leader – this is the prerogative and jurisdiction of MACC. I have never said a word nor interfered.

“Similarly, on individuals to be investigated, I did not name anyone. I did not jump the gun, nor say a word. I trust MACC will question and investigate any person – Umno MP or not – at the appropriate time if there is indeed truth to such allegations.”

Wee, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said this in response to Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy who taunted him for keeping silent over Baling MP Azeez Rahim’s alleged involvement in the case. Azeez is also an Umno supreme council member.

“Why is Wee not responding with the same kind of fervour and energy that he did when he queried the Penang government over the undersea tunnel project?” Ramasamy told a news portal.

“Wee churned out statement after statement over the issue, and so did Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow, who held several press conferences to attack the state government and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng over the project,” the DAP leader had said.

The agency has remanded a businessman who allegedly accepted RM19 million from Consortium Zenith Corporation to help put a stop to the probe on CZC. Another RM3 million was allegedly paid to Azeez to help secure the company’s interests.

Azeez, who is also the Tabung Haji chairman, has denied the allegation.

Wee also reiterated the questions he had posed to Ramasamy and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng regarding China Railway Construction Company being paid only 5% of the total payment and possible abuse of power in awarding the project to CZC which did not have sufficient funds.

“Are these questions really so difficult to answer that no one from the entire Penang government or DAP is able to answer for almost two weeks?

“Now that you have broken your silence to ask me, please do not go back into hibernation mode. I await you (Ramasamy) or Lim Guan Eng to answer the above.

“Don’t accuse me of having a tail between my legs when you all have been hiding from my questions for the past two weeks – legs, tail and everything else,” said Wee.-2/3/2018
